Gratitude Journal Program

The Gratitude Journal Program is a school program created for elementary students in grades 3 through 5 focused on personal and collective gratitude. Implemented in partnership with the local school district, this program aims to encourage students to develop structured gratitude habits during their regular weekly routines. Studies show that writing in a gratitude journal even 1-2 times per week can have a significant positive impact on our own happiness as well as our connection to others. Through this new pilot initiative, the Shraman Peace Institute supports local student gratitude development by providing a fun, kid-oriented gratitude journal for use during students’ social and emotional learning time in class. As of launch of the pilot program during the ‘21-’22 school year, the Shraman Peace Institute has partnered with 35 different schools to bring the gratitude program to almost 10,000 students across hundreds of different classrooms.

Creating a Gratitude Habit

The Student Gratitude Journal’s prompted entry pages allow students to reflect on regular moments in their lives for which they’re grateful.

Connecting with Others

As an initiative developed in collaboration with the larger school district, students will not only explore their own gratitude but also connect with each other.

Building Practical Skills

The gratitude journals also offer an opportunity for students to practice writing on a regular basis about a topic unrelated to their graded schoolwork.
